how do i add things to same canvas one at a time without zooming into new items

How do I add objects to a canvas click by click without zooming to the objects. i.e Canvas with picture on left. Now I want to add 3 bullet points on the right, one by one so it shows Picture only, then picture with point 1, then picture with points 1 and 2 etc. Have seen it many times but can't figure out how to do it. Please help!
