Hello to everyone using the new Prezi for Windows or Mac application.
As I’m sure a lot of you noticed, we have recently made some big and really exciting changes to our desktop application. We’re all really proud of these changes and we think we have a much better product, but we also appreciate that there are some significant differences compared to what came before. With this in mind, I’d like to answer some questions about Prezi for Windows/Mac.
Where are my files?
Everyone who’s ever used our desktop application before will be used to the PEZ file system, and will have grown accustomed to these files being saved in a particular place. As we found that most people regularly synced their prezis with prezi.com, we wanted to make it easier for everyone to do this without losing the ability to keep prezis offline.
We differentiate your prezis for you based on whether they’re stored on your computer and on prezi.com - ‘Sync with prezi.com’ or only on your computer - ‘Only on computer’.
Why are you syncing my files to the cloud? I want them to be private!!!
We are absolutely not automatically syncing any of your prezis to the cloud. We know that keeping files exclusively on a computer is of utmost importance to a lot of our users, and we would never do that.
Any prezi you create, edit, or import from a previous PEZ file (that was never uploaded to Prezi.com) is automatically put in the ‘Only on computer’ section and is not synced with the cloud (unless you decide to).
But then why are you asking me to login to the application? And why can’t I log in if I don’t have an active Internet connection?
We have always asked for your login details when you first start to use our desktop application. We need to do this in order to check that you have paid for your license and that it is still valid. Once you have done this, you only require an Internet connection if you choose to sync a prezi with prezi.com, or for the conversion of some file types. If this is not the case, please let us know!
Conversion of what file types?
Certain video, picture, and sound file types require a conversion to work in Prezi. Our desktop application requires an Internet connection to perform this conversion. This process does not in anyway put any of your content at risk or make it publicly available. If you wish to avoid this process or don’t have an Internet connection, you can use the following file types as they do not require conversion.
Images:
png / jpeg / jpg / gif
Video:
mp4 / flv / f4v
Audio:
mp4 /mp3
Other:
xml / swf
Yeah, yeah, but where are my files?!
You can find the files for your prezis in the following directories:
Windows 7, Vista:
C:\Users\[YOUR_USERNAME]\prezi\workspace\prezis
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR_USERNAME]\prezi\workspace\prezis
Mac OSX:
/Users/[YOUR_USERNAME]/prezi/workspace/prezis
But there’s nothing that you can do with these apart from back them up in case something happens to your computer.
You can’t import them or open them via Windows explorer or Finder on a Mac. To do this, you’ll need to export your prezi as a PEZ and then import using the ‘Import new prezi’ button. You can find more details on that here:
